It is a water-proof breathable membrane and DWR (Durable Water Resistant) finish that is fluorocarbon-free and recyclable. Does this vegetable based shell perform as well as the regular synthetic stuff? The answer here is “very close.”

It’s not a heavy and beefy hiking boot like some others out there, however it does offer very good support for your feet and ankles.
